Soft Fruit

Blackberry
Vigorous wall or fence plant with large juicy fruit. Plants will spread 15-20 feet. Fruit ripens in August and September.

Blackcurrant
Easy to grow fruit, cropping in July-August. Prune heavily to keep fruit quality high. Good source of Vitamin C.


Cobnut
Grows to a height of 6 feet. The nuts are carried on older wood. Prune some old wood out each year and cut vigorous new wood back to a catkin.

Fig
A vigorous shrub that needs a good sunny spot. Crops better when the roots are restricted. Fruit ripens in late summer to autumn.

Gooseberry
Easy to grow fruit cropping in June/July. Fruit can be used for jam and pies

Loganberry (Thornless)
Fruit good for pies, jam or eating fresh. August-September. Late flowering so can be planted in frosty sites. Ideal against a wall or fence, or along wires. Spread 12-15 feet.

Raspberry
Raspberries require a free-draining soil and do not like getting wet feet. They fruit on the previous year's cane which must be tied up to support the crop.

Redcurrant
Heavy cropping bushes with red fruits in July. Suitable for all soils and situations, and they can be trained against fences and walls or along wires.

Tayberry
A cross between blackberry and raspberry. Fruit good for pies, jam or eating fresh. Late July-August. Heavy cropper. Late flowering so can be planted in a frosty site. Ideal against a wall or fence or along wires. Spread 15-20 feet.
