Blackmoor Nursery is one of very few Nurseries in the UK offering gardeners the opportunity to buy Apricot fruit trees direct from our Nursery.
All orders are despatched in one delivery. If your order contains both bare root and container grown plants then we can only despatch when all plants are ready.
Any Bare Root fruit trees - Availability means available for supply from Nov to April.
Any Container grown fruit trees - Availability means available for supply now.
How tall will my Apricot tree grow?
Fruit trees are grafted onto rootstocks. Rootstocks come in 5 sizes (2 for Apricots) see the chart below, all of our trees are labelled using these codes.

Montclare approximately 3 metres when mature.
St Julien A (SJA) 3.5 - 4 metres when mature. Although trees can be kept smaller if fan trained.
Bare Root = Field grown trees that have been freshly lifted and supplied with no soil around the roots. Only available during the dormant period November-April
10 Litre = Container grown and can be planted all year round. The size refers to the number of litres of compost that the container holds.
1 Year Maiden = A one year old tree and the size depends on the variety but in general they will be 125cm in height and may have some side branches.
2 Year Bush = A two year old tree that has been pruned back in the first winter to form a bush shape. Generally trees will be 140-160cm in height with multiple side branches. This height guide is an end of summer height.

Collection - If you would like to collect your trees then use this option. Note the collection is from the Wholesale Nursery office between Monday-Friday only. Please allow 1 working days for your order to be processed prior to collection date.
We are not a Garden Centre or retail Nursery. Orders can be placed via our website and the collection option can be selected at the checkout. Your order will then be ready for you to collect during our normal opening hours which are Monday-Friday 07.30-16.30. Our plants are grown in fields that can be 2 miles away from our office so it is not possible to just turn up and select your own trees.
Delivery Charges - The delivery charge is worked out from the weight and the size of the plant. We have several rates that apply to UK mainland addresses. A delivery charge of £9.95 is for all single tree orders. £11.40 if more than one tree. £15.00 charge for larger orders except in the case of the Espalier Fans and Step Over trained trees where this charge is between 40.00 - £57.00 depending on the delivery location. Once you have put together your order the delivery charge will show before payment. All orders are despatched in one delivery.
To take advantage of a promotional code or gift voucher this must be entered into the redeem code box at the checkout. Discounts cannot be given once an order is completed and any codes have not been used.

Apricot Tomcot fruit trees - This variety of Apricot gives a very heavy crop of large crimson flushed fruits which are ripe for picking from around the middle of July. Tomcot is grown on a dwarf rootstock (Montclare), which is the latest rootstock for growing apricots. It produces a very manageable Apricot tree that fruits heavily. Approximate tree height when mature 3 metres. Tomcot is a self fertile Apricot but like all other Apricots they do flower very early so hand pollinate the flowers with a soft brush to aid the pollination. Protection from frosts when in blossom is essential. This Apricot would be our choice for any garden.

In July 2022 I purchased an apricot Tomcot & I followed the care guidelines carefully. We are now in May 2023 & there is absolutely no sign of life. I have advised Blackmoor Nurseries of the problem + photos sent, I have requested a replacement tree as it's clearly not thriving. 11.05.2023: The sales team replied: "All that I can suggest now is that you monitor the tree over the summer months and let us know if there is any change by the end of September. It could just be slow coming out of the winter dormancy as the weather has been pretty cold" I am very disappointed and unhappy with this response, and have now requested a photo of the apricots currently in stock at Blackmoor Nurseries for comparison purposes. If I monitor my apricot during summer months & contact Blackmoor Nurseries again in September I suspect I will be outside of the 12 month guarantee period. This is not acceptable. I hope that common sense will prevail and a replacement apricot sent to me, or a refund if this is not possible.

Another fantastic order from Blackmoor. Received this yesterday. The tree has arrived in A1 condition, it is also a fantastic specimen. I can’t wait to get it in the ground at the allotment tomorrow. Will be ordering again from Blackmoor. Say no to the “big boys” and order from Blackmoor that’s what I say.

I bought two trees in 2016 and this year they both produced abundant fruit. One tree I watered once the fruit set and its fruit were bigger than chicken eggs, the other the fruit were half the size. So water regularly.

Sadly this is the only tree I've bought from Blackmoors which has died. It looked happy initially and was growing well for its first Spring/Summer but then it didn't come through the Winter. I had it in a very large pot in a sheltered position but it didn't seem to cope with the cold we had this last Winter.

Apricot tree arrived in excellent condition....healthy and well branched. Now potted into a container, with a media mix of 50% John Innes No3 25% multi-purpose potting compost and 25% coarse grit along with a sprinkling of controlled release fertilizer. The order process, packaging and courier delivery were all faultless. Have purchased a few plants through Blackmoor's and have been totally happy with my orders....highly recommended.

I decided to try establishing an apricot fan tree .. A daunting project!...the one year maiden arrived in good condition, as always (thanks Blackmoor team!) and after a slow start due to cold weather, the tree is flourishing....has lovely coloured reddish juvenile leaves that develop into deep green as they mature. Thanks also for the pruning tips!

Investment in fruit trees is for the long term, so it must always be worth buying good quality. I have just received a "Tomcot" apricot tree from Blackmoor Nursery, ordered from them on-line less than 48 hours ago (May 2011). The tree is in excellent shape, thanks to the 5 star packaging, & will no doubt settle in well. The roots are clearly happy in the large coir pot. I would unhesitatingly recommend this supplier. Tomcot Apricot Growing Tips.
Alongside the many similarities there are several important differences between Apricots and Peaches. Bacterial canker and silver leaf are not serious threats, so pruning is safe in late winter or early spring. The blossom is self fertile so a partner is not required, although the earliness of the flowering season means that hand pollination is recommended.

What other apricot varieties will cross pollinate Tomcot - All Apricots are self fertile but they do flower very early and may require hand pollination. This is done by brushing from flower to flower with a soft brush.
When is the best time to plant a apricot fruit tree - Container grown trees can be planted at any time of the year. Bare Root apricot trees can only be planted between the months of November - April.
Planting distance for apricot trees - All fruit trees are grafted onto a rootstock. It is the rootstock that determines how big the apricot tree will grow into. There is a rootstock guide on the left hand side of all fruit tree product pages that explains this. As tall as the tree will grow into would be the planting distance. Example Montclare will grow to 3 metres when mature. So a spacing of between 3 metres would be required.
Can I grow a apricot tree in a pot - All fruit trees will be happy growing in a large container. A pot around 50-60cm is ideal. There is more information on growing fruit trees in containers in our FAQ page.
