Sweet Cherry Early Rivers fruit trees - This variety was introduced over 100 years ago. Early Rivers is a black cherry noted for both it's earliness and fruit size. The skin and flesh are very dark and the flavour is excellent. Cropping is both heavy and regular. Picking time for Early Rivers is around mid June. Early Rivers is not a self fertile cherry, a good pollinating partners would be Napoleon Bigarreau or Stella.

Cherry Morello
Acid Cooking Cherry Morello fruit trees - Smaller than its sweet cousins, the Morello cherry is self fertile and crops heavily in most parts of the country. Morello cherry tolerates colder and wetter conditions than the sweet cherries. The cherries are pickable from the time their skin is dark red. At this stage, Morello cherries are sour and should be cooked (they make great cherry jam). However if a Morello cherry is left on the tree into August (by which time its skin will be practically black) it will be edible off the tree in the same way that a tart eating apple is.

Jostaberry 3 Litre
The nearly black berry, which is smaller than a gooseberry and a bit larger than a blackcurrant, is edible both raw and cooked. It is described as having a taste intermediate between a gooseberry and a blackcurrant, with the gooseberry flavour more dominant in the unripe fruit, and the blackcurrant notes developing as the fruit ripens. The ripe fruit will hang on the bush in good condition through late summer, but is very popular with birds. The somewhat unripe fruit can be used in cooking recipes as a gooseberry. Like blackcurrants the fruit freezes well, and like many other members of the Ribes genus it is rich in Vitamin C.
